Follow the steps below to create a barcode in Microsoft Word or any of your favourite text editor/graphics editor.
- Launch Microsoft Word
- Launch ConnectCode Encoder. The Encoder can be started from the Windows Start Menu.
- In the Encoder, choose the barcode you will like to use and key in the data to encode.
- Click on the Encode button
- Make sure the option «Show as text» is not selected/checked
- In the Preview section of the Encoder, copy the barcode by pressing on «Ctrl» key followed by the «C» (keeping the «Ctrl» key pressed). This will copy the barcode.
- Goto Microsoft Word and click on the menu Edit->Paste to paste the barcode
Important Notes
Microsoft Word automatically adds an «End of Line» character when the Enter key is pressed after each line. If this additional character becomes encoded into the barcode, you may encounter problems scanning this barcode.
To simulate this problem, follow the steps below.
- Launch the Font Encoder.
- Generate a Code 39 barcode.
- Copy the output to Microsoft Word.
- Press the Enter Key at the end of the barcode.
Notice the additional character added by Word.
To overcome the problem, simply set the font back to a normal font (e.g. Arial or Verdana) after the barcode characters. This way, the End Of Line character will be shown as «space». As shown in the diagram above, simply select the last character in the second barcode and change the font back to Arial. The End Of Line character will not be encoded as part of the barcode.
Mail Merge — Word 2007/2010/2013/2016
You will be able to create barcodes in Excel and do a Mail Merge into Word easily. Simply follow the steps below.
- Create an Excel file with barcodes as discussed in the Excel Tutorial. The contents of the Excel file should look like the diagram below.
Please note the additional character problem mentioned above also applies here. Simply change the font back to a normal font like Arial at the end of the barcode to resolve this issue.

- Create an Excel file with barcodes as discussed in the Excel Tutorial.
- Launch Microsoft Word 2003.
- Display the Mail Merge Toolbar by choosing View->Toolbars->Mail Merge from the menu..
- Click the Main Document Setup Button to setup your document size.
- Click the Open Data Source button.

Add barcodes to labels
Barcodes
Word no longer has a built-in barcode tool. However you can generate barcodes using two field codes, DisplayBarcode and MergeBarcode.
These field codes support 10 types of barcodes, including UPC, Code 39, and Code 128. There is a postnet code CASE/ITC14, but it is a different tracking type barcode than the traditional Postnet format used for common mail routing.
The earlier Postnet barcode that supported ZIP and ZIP + 4 has been discontinued as of January 2013, at least for postal discounts. It’s been replaced by Intelligent Mail barcode. If you need to create postal barcodes, the US Postal Service offers a number of resources to help you. There are also third-party suppliers of add-ons and tools for postal barcodes.
You can create labels with barcodes using DisplayBarcode and MergeBarcode. In this example, we’re using multiple MergeFields, so we’re showing how to do it with DisplayBarcode.
If you want just a barcode with a hard coded value, just use DisplayBarcode. For info and examples, see Field Code: DisplayBarcode.
These steps use an Excel spreadsheet as the data source for the labels. The merge creates labels with the human readable name and address, and a Code 128 barcode underneath with first name, last name, and city for machine reading. The field names are unique to whatever Excel data source you’re using. The ones here are just examples.

Note: Field codes and barcode types are not case sensitive.
In Excel, prepare your worksheet, and name the range. For more info, see Create and print mailing labels for an address list in Excel.
Go to Mailings > Start Mail Merge >Labels.
Choose a label vendor and product to use. If you don’t see a list of label vendors, select Options.
If you don’t see your product number, select New Label and configure a custom label.
Connect the data source in Word.
Go to Mailings > Select Recipients.
Select Existing List, and pick your Excel file.
If you get the Confirm Data Source dialog, select Show all, and then choose MS Excel Worksheets via DDE (*.xls).
Choose the named group.
If you need to, select Mailings >Edit Recipient List and take out anyone you don’t want in the list.
Click or tap in the first label of the document.
Put in an «AddressBlock» on the top of the label. For more info, see Create and print mailing labels for an address list in Excel.
Press Enter, and then press Ctrl + F9 to open a Field.
Type DisplayBarcode» . Include the quote.
Press Ctrl + F9, and type MergeField FirstName .
Move your cursor outside the right curly brace, and press Ctrl + F9 again.
Type MergeField LastName and move cursor to the right again.
Press Ctrl + F9 and type MergeField City . Move the cursor to the right outside the curly brace.
Type a space and a quote, then the barcode type, and any switches like » Code128 t h 1440 | . End with a vertical bar.
Your code should look like this:
Select Mailings > Update Labels. The other labels on the page should be filled in.
To test your merge, select Preview Results.

Самым популярным из них является EAN13. Конфигурации 1С:Предприятия позволяют автоматически формировать и правильно обрабатывать штриховой код в этом формате.
Для внутренней нумерации предназначены префиксы штрихового кода 20-29. Например, для весового товара обычно используют префикс 22, то есть если штриховой код начинается с символов “22”, то предполагается, что используется внутренний штриховой код, основанный на коде товара и его весе. Тогда в пяти символах, начиная с третьего, записан вес товара, а в пяти символах, начиная с восьмого, записан вес, последняя, 13 цифра содержит контрольную сумму кода и рассчитывается автоматически по первым 12. Для печати этикеток используются специализированные принтеры штрих-этикеток. С этими принтерами обычно поставляются драйвера для подключения к операционной системе Windows, что позволяет использовать их, как и обычные принтеры для печати любого изображения. Это очень удобная возможность, которая позволяет печать штриховой код, используя специальные компоненты и не зависеть от конкретной модели принтера.

В типовых конфигурациях 1С:Предприятия для формирования графического представления штрихового кода используется компонента ActiveBarcode, созданная компанией Schenk&Horn. Система программ 1С:Предприятие включает лицензию времени выполнения компоненты версий 3.хх. Это означает, что при использование ActiveBarcode из 1С:Предприятия, этот ActiveX будет работать, как лицензионная копия.
ActiveBarcode является ActiveX (OLE) сервером, что позволяет вставлять его в таблицы. Он умеет отображать переданный в него код в виде штрихового кода. ActiveBarcode поддерживает практически все форматы штрихового кодирования, поэтому его использование не требует специальных знаний.
Подключение:
Компонента ActiveBarcode реализуется в файле barcode.ocx. Этот файл нужно переписать в каталог, не подлежащий удалению, так как компонента может использоваться разными конфигурациями, а так же и другими программами. Для примера, можно расположить файл в подкаталоге BIN каталога установки 1С:Предприятия.
Далее следует зарегистрировать компонент в системном реестре Windows. Для этого существует специальная программа REGSVR32, которая входит в стандартную поставку
WINDOWS. Для регистрации нужно выполнить следующие действия:
на системной панели нажать кнопку Пуск (Start). В появившемся выпадающем меню выбрать пункт Выполнить… (Run…)
в появившемся окне с названием “Запуск программы” (“Run”) в поле Открыть (Open) нужно написать следующее:

Использование
Для формирования печатной формы в 1С:Предприятии используются таблицы. Для вставки объекта ActiveBarCode в таблицу нужно произвести следующие действия:
при открытой таблице нужно в меню “Таблица” выбрать пункт “Вставить рисунок / Объект”
в появившемся списке объектов нужно выбрать элемент Active Barcode
при помощи манипулятора “мышь ” выделить область, в которой будет располагаться объект.
Выполняя эту операцию, следует учитывать, что размер этикетки намного меньше стандартного листа формата A4. Поэтому перед выводом на печать нужно воспользоваться функцией просмотра, чтобы убедиться в том, что изображение помещается на один лист.
У выбранного объекта (объект выбирается щелчком левой кнопки манипулятора “мышь” на объекте), можно установить его параметры, выбрав в меню “Действия” пункт “ActiveBarcode Object / Properties…”.
